Beyond Simple Trend Tests: Detecting Significant Changes in Design‐Flood Quantiles

چکیده
Changes in annual maximum flood (AMF), which are usually detected using simple trend tests (e.g., Mann-Kendall test (MKT)), expected to change design-flood estimates. We propose an alternate framework detect significant changes between two periods and evaluate it for synthetically generated AMF from the Log-Pearson Type-3 (LP3) distribution due moments associated with distribution. Synthetic experiments show MKT does not consider all three of LP3 incorrectly detects design-flood. applied on 31 river basins spread across United States. Statistically quantiles were observed even without a statistically did necessarily exhibit recommend application evaluating estimates considering as opposed tests.

A Universal Nonparametric Test for Detecting Changes in Trend∗
This paper proposes a nonparametric test for detecting changes in the deterministic component of a dynamic time series model. The testing procedure is based on the asymptotic behaviour of a quasi-likelihood ratio statistic similar to the class of procedures proposed by Fan et al. (2001) for assessing the fit of nonparametric regression models in an iid-error setting. In particular, the test pro...
متن کاملAdaptive Threshold for Detecting Significant Fold Changes in Microarray Data
To detect significant changes in gene expression, a threshold for fold change, which is a fixed value for all genes, is widely used. However, it is not always guaranteed that a value which is appropriate for highly expressed genes is suitable for genes with low expression. In this study, aiming at detecting significant changes from a wide range of expression levels, we propose an adaptive thres...
متن کاملConcepts and Tests for Trend in Recurrent Event Processes
Interest in the presence and nature of trend arises frequently in science, public health, technology, and many other areas. In this ar- ticle we discuss the notion of trend in the context of recurrent event processes. We discuss different frameworks within which one can inves- tigate trend and consider various ways in which trends may be manifest. Tests for trend are discussed in detail and t...

Kendall Rank Correlation Let (X1, Y1), · · · , (Xn, Yn) be a bivariate random sample of size n. The Pearson correlation coefficient provides an optimal measure of the degree of association between the X’s and the Y ’s when the sample is drawn from a bivariate normal distribution. The Pearson correlation coefficient is reasonably robust for many other distributions as well. The Kendall correlati...
متن کاملDetecting frauds using customer behavior trend analysis and known scenarios
In this paper a fraud detection method is proposed which user behaviors are modeled using two main components namely the un-normal trend analysis component and scenario based component. The extent of deviation of a transaction from his/her normal behavior is estimated using fuzzy membership functions. The results of applying all membership functions on a transaction will then be infused and a f...
